Privacy policy

This policy explains how jamaican.support ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit the site, take the survey or contact us. It applies to jamaican.support only.

The short version

• We don't ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other contact details.
• If you type personal details into a note or message anyway, we remove them.
• We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
• Notes are only published if you ask us to, anonymously and after review.
• You can ask us to take down anything published on the site.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Survey answers: the issues you pick, any issue you add, and whether you live in Jamaica, abroad, or are not Jamaican.
• An optional note, only if you choose to add one: your note, suggestion or correction, what kind it is, and whether you want it published.
• Feedback form: the topic and your message.

We don't ask for names or contact details. If you include personal details in a note or message anyway, we automatically remove email addresses and phone numbers where we can, and delete any other personal details we find. If you email us directly, we use your email only to deal with your message.

Information collected automatically

When you use the site, our systems and service providers receive standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request and the date and time. We use it to run and secure the site, prevent spam and abuse, and fix problems. We don't use it to build a profile of you.

Cookies

We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. Our service providers may use strictly necessary cookies to keep the site secure and working.

How we use information

• To run the survey and publish overall results.
• To publish notes that people have asked us to publish.
• To read and act on feedback.
• To keep the site secure and prevent spam, abuse and repeat voting.
• To improve the site and decide what to research and write about.
• To meet legal obligations.

We rely on your consent for the optional note you choose to give us. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working site for the technical information described above.

Use of AI

This site and its content may be managed with the use of AI, including editing and posting. We may also use AI-assisted tools to help us organize and respond to the messages and survey notes we receive. Decisions to publish anyone's note are reviewed by us.

What is public

• Overall survey results, including totals for people in Jamaica and abroad.
• Notes whose writers asked us to publish them. They are published as "Anonymous", with where the writer said they live and the kind of note.

Feedback messages are never published.

How we share information

We share personal information only:

• With service providers who help us run the site, such as web hosting, content delivery and security, email, and AI-assisted tools. They may use it only to provide their services to us.
• When the law requires it, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or us.
• With your permission.

We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

International transfers

We and our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data protection laws than where you live. We take reasonable steps to make sure your information stays protected when it is transferred.

How long we keep information

• Survey answers: for as long as the survey runs. After that, results may be kept in a form that doesn't identify anyone.
• Notes: for as long as the survey runs, or until you ask us to take a published note down.
• Feedback messages: for as long as needed to act on them and keep a reasonable record.
• Technical information: for a short period, as needed for security and troubleshooting.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• have it corrected or deleted
• withdraw consent you have given
• object to or ask us to limit how we use it

Because we don't collect names or contact details, survey answers and feedback can't be linked back to you, so in most cases we can't find a particular person's answers. To have something published on the site taken down, use our feedback form and choose "Remove something posted on the site", and tell us what it is. We act on requests within 30 days.

You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. In Jamaica, that is the Office of the Information Commissioner.

Do Not Track

We don't track visitors across other websites, and we don't allow others to do so on our site. Because of that, we don't change how the site works in response to browser "Do Not Track" signals.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Links to other websites

We link to other websites, such as the groups on our Resources page and the sources of our statistics. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date, and highlight significant changes on the site.
